- Summary
- 'Zehn' is a sensitive photographic look into childhood. At the request of her ten-year-old son, German photographer Grit Schwerdtfeger portrayed her son Lorenz almost every day for an entire year. The long-term study, reproduced in the publication in condensed form, not only provides insight into the development of a child, but also tells about the intimate relationship between son and mother. At an age when the outward appearance is still androgynous, self-conscious moments alternate with juvenile vulnerability. The hands clasped casually in the pockets of the pants, or the large fur hat serving as protection, represent the different moods and development of personal identity. Zehn shows how the essence of a person slowly emerges.
