• Montpellier is no less famous, nor less recommendable, for its surgeons and apothecaries. Those who have stayed in this city are esteemed by all of France ', wrote Thomas Platter, who came from Switzerland to study medicine, just like his older brother Félix, after whom he wrote some of the most valuable testimonies on local life. in the sixteenth century 0 Jacques Bousquet, always fascinated by the history of Montpellier, and all the arts that compose it, wished to deposit at the Musée Fabre a large part of his collection, consisting in particular of a remarkable set of earthenware from Montpellier apothecary. This book is the account of the meticulous investigative work carried out on this unpublished collection, putting into perspective the forms and uses of these pots, often richly decorated, in the history that gave birth to them: this real investigation has led to many discoveries, sometimes tasty, in a Montpellier alive to the rhythm of the various businesses linked to one of its founding dimensions, the university of medicine, as well as the education which is immediately correlated to it, that of pharmacy. is today ours, the field of health is not spared by questions, in parallel with the well-being that it lavishes. In a spirit of openness and sharing, the artist Jeanne Susplugas, attached to giving sensitive form to the impact of science, biology and pharmacy in particular, on our daily lives, makes visible the complexity of these interferences, with a poetry not devoid of humor that lets gravity shine through. Ceux qui ont séjourné dans cette ville sont estimés par toute la France ', écrivait Thomas Platter, venu de Suisse pour étudier la médecine, tout comme son frère aîné Félix, à la suite duquel il a rédigé parmi les plus précieux témoignages sur la vie locale au xvie siècle.0Jacques Bousquet, depuis toujours passionné par l'histoire de Montpellier, et par tous les arts qui la composent, a souhaité déposer au musée Fabre une part importante de sa collection, constituée notamment d'un ensemble remarquable de faïences d'apothicairerie montpelliéraines. Ce livre est le récit du travail minutieux d'investigation mené sur cette collection inédite, mettant en perspective les formes et usages de ces pots, souvent richement ornés, dans l'histoire qui les a fait naître: cette véritable enquête a permis bien des découvertes, parfois savoureuses, dans un Montpellier vivant au rythme des divers négoces liés à l'une de ses dimensions fondatrices, l'université de médecine, ainsi que l'enseignement qui lui est immédiatement corrélé, celui de la pharmacie. Dans le monde instable qui est aujourd'hui le nôtre, le domaine de la santé n'est pas épargné par les interrogations, en parallèle du bien-être qu'il prodigue. Dans un esprit d'ouverture et de partage, l'artiste Jeanne Susplugas, attachée à donner forme sensible à l'impact des sciences, la biologie et la pharmacie en particulier, sur notre quotidien, rend visible la complexité de ces interférences, avec une poésie non dénuée d'humour qui laisse transparaître la gravité.
