Summary
An artistic look at immigration by artist Santiago with an installation comprising 2501 clay figures of men, women and children that represent the absence and emptiness created by the economic need to leave. The number 2501 is the number of people of Teococuilo (Oaxaca) that have immigrated to California. The artist lived as an illegal immigrant in Oceanside, San Diego and San Francisco for a month and a half. Alejandro Santiago was born in San Pedro Teococuilco, (de Marcos Pérez), Oaxaca, in 1964, and died before his fifties in the city of Oaxaca, a victim of diabetes.
