Summary
The Minoan palaces and villas of Crete often give the impression of a late Bronze Age culture, which was shaped by elitist social systems and mysterious cults. The now numerous well-known Late Bronze Age settlements and their diverse finds in different regions of Crete describe varied settlement developments. The present work provides a comprehensive overview of found materials, building finds and location conditions of 23 Minoan villas in Crete. Here, the analysis is decisively expanded by including the geographic conditions of the surroundings and a comparison with other Late Bronze Age sites and settlements in Crete. In this way, the study offers perspectives for questioning established interpretations of the late Bronze Age settlement conditions in Crete. -- Publisher's description.
