- Summary
- Journey on paper' examines the years 1990-1991 in which Joris Ghekiere spent a year traveling through Asia. No fewer than 170 autonomous works of art were created during this months-long journey. Mu.ZEE is the first museum to display a large selection of this collection of works on paper. With 'Joris Ghekiere - Traveling on paper', Mu.ZEE is the first to present an exhibition with a wide selection of works on paper by this Belgian artist. It was as a painter that Joris Ghekiere (1955-2016) gained fame and appreciation. With his thorough research into and experimentation with the possibilities of the medium, he managed to take an idiosyncratic position within painting. What is hardly known, however, is that in addition to an extensive painting oeuvre, Joris Ghekiere also left behind an incredibly rich corpus of works on paper. The artist carefully kept hundreds of sketches, collages, drawings and watercolors in a chest of drawers in his studio, from the early 1980s until shortly before his death. More than 600 works, in different formats, made with various techniques and created over a time span of more than 35 years, form a surprising collection that can be divided into two categories. Exhibition: Mu.ZEE, Ostend, Belgium (02.07.- 27.11. 2022)

Mu.ZEE is the first museum to display a large selection of this collection of works on paper.
