Summary
With the curatorship of Valéria Piccoli, chief curator of the Pinacoteca; Fernanda Pitta, assistant professor at MAC-USP and curator of Pina since May of 2022, and Taylor L. Poulin, assistant curator of the Terra Foundation, the exhibition comprises 150 works from 78 artists, among them, recognized names of American art, as Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper, in addition to works by Charles White (1918-1979), Emma Amos (1937-2020), George Nelson Preston, Jacob Lawrence and Vivian Browne, among others. The works on display date back to 1893 -the year of the Universal Exhibition in Chicago, USA, an event that marks the first time Brazil has presented itself internationally as a republican country aligned with U.S. political values- until 1976, during the celebration of the Bicentennial of the American independence, bringing to the foreground an amplified narrative of art in the USA, exploring the ways in which modernity manifests itself in North American artistic production during the transformations of cities into modernism.
