Ein Baum, eine Uhr, die Sonne oder ein Regenbogen ? mittels Wiederholung, Isolation oder Reduktion setzt er sie in einer für ihn typischen minimalistischer Manier in einen neuen Kontext und schafft atmosphärische Stimmungsbilder. Die Schirn widmet Rondinone eine große Überblicksausstellung, in der zentrale Gemälde, Skulpturen und Videoarbeiten des renommierten Schweizer Künstlers präsentiert werden. Eigens für die Schirn konzipiert er zudem eine neue Installation, die sich über die gesamte Länge der Galerie und in die Rotunde erstreckt. Die Ausstellung und das Buch 'Life Time' verbinden wesentliche Themen, die das Schaffen des Konzept- und Installationskünstlers seit 30 Jahren prägen: Zeit und Vergänglichkeit, Tag und Nacht, Realität und Fiktion, Natur und Kultur. Immer wieder greift Rondinone in seinen Arbeiten auf die Ikonografie der Romantik zurück, zitiert Literatur und Popkultur. Der Ausgangspunkt seines multimedialen Œuvres ist die Umstülpung der Außenwelt in eine subjektive, emotionale Innenwelt. Er entwirft Erfahrungsräume, in denen das Publikum Teil der Installationen und ihrer immersiven Anlage wird.
  • Day and Night, Reality and Fiction, Nature and Culture Ugo Rondinone (* 1964) lends a poetic dimension to everyday things or phenomena. A tree, a clock, the sun or a rainbow? by means of repetition, isolation or reduction, he puts it in a new context in a typical minimalist way for him and creates atmospheric mood images. The Schirn dedicates to Rondinone a large overview exhibition, in which the central paintings, sculptures and video works of the renowned Swiss artist are presented. It also designs a new installation for the Schirn, which extends over the entire length of the gallery and into the rotunda. The exhibition and the book 'Life Time' combine essential themes that have shaped the work of the concept and installation artist for 30 years: time and transience, day and night, reality and fiction, nature and culture. Rondinone repeatedly refers to the iconography of romance in his works, citing literature and pop culture. The starting point of his multimedia work is the transformation of the outside world into a subjective, emotional inner world.
