Summary
"South African writer and journalist Helen Nontando (Noni) Jabavu (1919 - 2008) was born in the Eastern Cape. Educated in Britain from the age of 13, she is the author of two autobiographical works, Drawn in Colour, African contrasts (1960) and The Ochre People scenes from a South African life (1963). In 1961 she became the first African woman editor of a British literary magazine The New Strand. She moved back to South Africa in 2002. Includes contributions by her nieces Mzolisi Makiwane and Linda Mvusi, her grandson Tengo Xhosa Carter, and Zimbabwean poet and playwright Virginia Phiri, who became friends with Jabavu on her return"--Internet.
