- "As a counter to the notion that land art deals exclusively with artists who work with earth as their medium - this exhibition presents a number of important artists working with performance in the landscape from the 1970s to now, whose work has brought about a new way of seeing and interacting with the environment. Counter-Landscapes is the museum's first large-scale group exhibition focusing on performative actions in contemporary art, a medium that women artists embraced and propelled forward. The cross-generational, cross-gender group of artists in the exhibition includes early practitioners (1970s-80s), the next generation (1990s-2000s), and new commissions by two contemporary artists (2019). Artists include: Allora & Calzadilla, Francis Alÿs, Eleanor Antin, Agnes Denes, Song Dong, Angela Ellsworth with Museum of Walking, VALIE EXPORT, Ana Theresa Fernandez, Mona Hatoum, Rebecca Horn, Maria Hupfield, Saskia Jorda, Leslie Labowitz, Suzanne Lacy, Ana Mendieta, Christian Philipp Müller, Pope.L, Lotty Rosenfeld, Bonnie Ora Sherk, Beth Ames Swartz, Adrian Piper, Zhou Tao, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, and Antonia Wright"--Publisher's website.
