Summary
With 80 works by 38 Brazilian artists or from artists living in Brazil, the exhibition "Emancipated Modernities", proposes a critical and expanded reflection on the idea of modernity, in the light of the sociopolitical and economic context that runs through the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century. "In the year 2022 Brazil assumes a role of strategic importance for the reformulation of our artistic discourse. The centenary of the "Semana de Arte Moderna de 1922" (Week of Modern Art of 1922) redirect the concept of modernity linked to specific art movements [] We decided to study and revisit artists and moments in the Brazilian artistic production that, in their works and trajectories affirm the queries and challenges that constitute this way of modern life, releasing them from labels and rigid definitions." --Page 120.
