Summary

The Edificio Carolino (Carolino Building) is a colonial building located in the Historic Center, of the city of Puebla, in Mexico. Since 1937 it is occupied by the rectory and administrative offices of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP). The book is an "edition of photographs of the Carolino building, its façade, and its courtyards, its administrative and sports facilities, its stairs and corridors, its halls and scientific cabinets, as they were in the early years of the third decade of the 20th century and how they are today. Many of the images presented contrast the past and the present. From the images of the past we do not know the exact date of their printing, as well as the name of their authors, they are part of the rich collection of the Library "José María Lafragua" (BUAP). For more than ninety years they have been preserved and sometimes used to illustrate various university texts at very different times. It is worth observing carefully and with interest the changes and permanence in the use of university space, product of the transformation that our institution has experienced throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, also the result of the process of growth in enrollment and academic offer and, of course, of the great scientific-technical revolution that have traveled all areas of human knowledge. When observing the photographs of the past, the magnificence of our central building is also obvious, the degree of conservation of stairs, halls and corridors that have seen thousands of students at this university, transit. The current photographs are by Víctor Escobar Mejía, an artist who has toured this building with his lens in hand, to capture thousands of images with an experienced look that allows us to admire the details, the shapes and, with it, each stroke, each corner, each space of this beautiful building."
