Summary
Published on the occasion of the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Mariana Yampolsky's death. With the publication of this volume, the UIA and its Board of Trustees pay a well-deserved tribute to Mariana Yampolsky for her immeasurable contribution to Mexican culture. From her first works at the Taller de Gráfica Popular, through her engravings and memories recorded in her diaries, to her frequent trips to the most remote places of our Mexico, Yampolsky managed to resignify ethereal objects through her artistic sensibility, protected the original condition of things portraying the precise moment and gave life to the defenseless habits of people. Mariana Yampolsky's artistic work dialogues with and exposes social reality. Her first engravings reveal what will later be her ideological position and her activism in the face of the daily life of the peoples and their customs. Her drawings, notebook notes and her photographs show the various reflections of a Mexico with deficiencies, historically backward, politically used and with a precarious education; but at the same time, her photography displays a visual richness of landscapes, moments of small-town and urban life, old objects, modern artifacts, sounds, girls and boys playing, reading, writing; and women and men forging their destiny in their daily chores.
