- "The publication is devoted to the analysis of The Deadly Sins cycle by James Ensor (1860-1949), a Belgian painter with English roots, an artist whose oeuvre shaped modern art. As did his older contemporaries, Ensor drew inspiration from French Impressionism, but he also sought to disengage ever more from the traditional and academic aesthetic canons. In his series of etchings The Deadly Sins, he took up the classic theme of the seven cardinal sins, but did so with an originality of his own that disregarded the traditional manner of treating this subject."--from Publisher's website
