- "This volume discusses two exceptional Imperial Roman portrait busts (Emperor Septimius Severus [r. 193-211] and his wife, Empress Julia Domna) in the collection of the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University. In addition to situating and contextualizing these Imperial portraits in the visual art and culture of the Roman empire, the publication secures the first detailed evidence for their original appearances. Highlights include the recently discovered vestiges of their ancient polychromy, fresh insights into their masterful contrasting marble polishes, and intriguing possibilities regarding their production and display in antiquity. The book also publishes for the first time a highly significant but essentially unknown bust of Clodius Albinus, who briefly ruled with Septimius Severus (193-197 CE) until he fell out of favor and was deposed"--
