- The Dutch ceramist Wouter Dam (1957), together with fellow students such as Babs Haenen, Geert Lap, Barbara Nanning and Pauline Wiertz, is counted among the most successful students of Jan de Vaart and the ceramics course at the Rietveld Academy in the late 1970s. In the absence of an international overview publication of the past thirty years, there has been no overview of his oeuvre until now.00From the 1990s, Van Dam's work has developed from classically designed and somewhat restrained vase shapes to an expressive oeuvre in which the sculptural qualities of a vase shape become abstract. He does not make design, design or autonomous art, but autonomous ceramics. His objects can best be described as 'specific forms', a term borrowed from Donald Judd. Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands (20.5-29.10.2023).

Hoewel zijn werk in geen enkele internationale overzichtspublicatie van de afgelopen dertig jaar ontbreekt, was er tot op heden geen overzicht van zijn oeuvre.00Vanaf de jaren 1990 ontwikkelt het werk van Dam zich van klassiek vormgegeven en enigszins ingetogen vaasvormen tot een expressief oeuvre waarin sculpturale kwaliteiten van een vaasvorm abstract worden.
