Summary

This book proposes a discussion on the concept of ruin in contemporary art through pictorial representations of previous centuries, with a look at the history of conservation and restoration of cultural assets and the history of art, given the technical-material and expressive experimentation that artists have conquered, reaching the present day. With this contribution to the concept of ruin in relation to matter as an aesthetic and discursive value, we inquire what, or what relations exist between contemporary art and aging, the total degradation of the work of art, leading inexorably to its irreversible loss, with the imminent possibility of the death of the idea.
