Summary
In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Ceramics Section of the Japan Kōgei Association that has led the history of traditional ceramics, we present in 2022 an exhibition that illustrates the history of the art and its diverse development. At a proposal by Bearers of Important Intangible Cultural Properties, popularly known as "living national treasures," the Ceramics Section was launched in 1973 to stimulate the members' activities and has come to have the largest membership in the Association. In addition to the conservation and active use of traditional techniques, it helps ceramic artists learn from the techniques developed by precursors and express their own ideas in their works. This exhibition presents 139 works by 137 ceramic artists including masterpieces by living national treasures, those by ceramic artists who has been making impacts on the traditional art from outside mainstream groups, and latest works by rising ceramic artists to illustrate the history, beauty, and future of ceramics. -- From publisher's website.
