Curated by Adolfo F. Mantilla based on the collection currently safeguarded by the Academia de Artes, In collaboration with the project Arte y Cerebro of the Instituto de Fisiología Celular of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the exhibition was held within the 20th anniversary commemoration of the declaration of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and proposes new approaches to culture, identity and diversity through more than fifty works of art, made in Mexico by 20th-century artists from different latitudes of the world. The catalogue is part of an inter-institutional and interdisciplinary effort that allows not only new readings of Diego Rivera's mural, but also a deep reflection on how diversity is represented from an artistic and cultural perspective, and how it is perceived and processed in the human brain.
