- Note
- The introduction, a separate pamphlet (12 p. 25 cm.) with prefatory notice signed A.P. Stanley, has title: A new Biblia pauperum, being thirty-eight woodcuts illustrating the life, parables & miracles of Our Blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, with the proper descriptions thereof, extracted from the translation of the New Testament, by John Wiclif ... London, Printed by Unwin brothers, and to be sold by B. Quaritch, 1877.
- "This edition consists of two hundred and fifty seven copies. [Signed] Unwin brothers."
- The plates were printed from original wood-blocks of the late fifteenth century, and the text from Caxton type; the paper was made by hand, of material and color to imitate that used in the fifteenth century, and the binding is appropriate to that period. The whole imitates a blockbook and was issued as a volume to commemorate the Caxton celebration of 1877 and the Wycliffe quincentenary. cf. Introd.
- Prospectus (with caption title: The Caxton celebration, 1877. The Wiclif centenary) laid in.
- The genuineness of the woodcuts is questioned. cf. Schreiber, W.L. Handbuch der Holz-und Metallschnitte des XV. Jahrhunderts. Leipzig, 1926-30. v. 6, p. 87-89; v. 8, p. 148-152.
