- Summary
- This classic textbook provides a comprehensive account of modern paediatric hepatology. It will assist clinicians in detecting and diagnosing hepatobiliary disorders at the earliest possible stage and in providing the most effective management. All medical aspects of hepatobiliary disorders are covered, with sufficient details of surgical procedures to indicate their possible pathophysiological consequences and complications.
- Biochemical disturbances which facilitate diagnosis and treatment of inborn errors of metabolism are highlighted.
- There has been extensive revision of the whole text. Recent developments in cellular and molecular biology, inborn errors of metabolism, viral hepatitis and immunology and emphasized. The place of advances in ultrasonography, radiology, endoscopy and laparoscopy are considered. Developments in etiology, prevention, pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment in every area are detailed. Some chapters, such as that on liver transplantation, have been completely rewritten.
- New chapters have been added on alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, chronic hepatitis, autoimmune chronic active hepatitis and sclerosing cholangitis. Throughout the text, the latest research findings are summarised and areas in which further studies are urgently required are stressed.
- . Paediatricians, both practising and in the training grades, paediatric surgeons, gastroenterologists and pathologists involved in the investigation and treatment of children with hepatobiliary disorders will find the book indispensable. It will be an excellent resource for biochemists and molecular biologists involved in the study of liver disorders of childhood, basic science related to liver function and structure, or liver metabolism.
