Summary
  • Recombinant DNA techniques have generated remarkable advances in our understanding of the molecular biology of coronaviruses, yielding a mass of structural data concerning coronavirus genomes, mRNAs, and proteins. The focus of recent research has been on the role of essential and accessory gene products in the coronavirus replication cycle and the structure-function relationships of coronavirus proteins. Nevertheless, there are still large gaps in current knowledge.
  • The Coronaviridae represents the most important source of up-to-date information on coronaviruses collected together in a single volume. This comprehensive review of the coronavirus literature will be invaluable to researchers and students, as well as clinicians and veterinarians interested in coronavirus-related diseases.
