- Summary
- "This book is unique in presenting the use of noninvasive ventilatory techniques to eliminate respiratory morbidity and mortality and to avoid the need to resort to tracheostomy for the majority of patients with lung or neuromuscular disease. Noninvasive mechanical ventilation has been shown to prolong survival while decreasing the risk of pulmonary complications, hospitalizations, and costs.
- In addition, patients with neuromuscular and lung disorders prefer noninvasive means over tracheal intubation and tracheostomy for ventilatory support and secretion management. This book presents the various noninvasive inspiratory and expiratory muscle aids and the outcomes of their use in patients with respiratory muscle dysfunction. It describes treatment and rehabilitation interventions specific for patients with these conditions."--BOOK JACKET.
