Summary
"Ruling Suburbia is the story of the Republican machine that has dominated the political life of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, since 1875. For a majority of that time, the machine itself was controlled by one of two men: William McClure, from 1875 until his death in 1907; and John J. McClure, William's son, from 1907 until his death in 1965. The first chapter of this study recounts William's career. The rest of the work, with the exception of an epilogue, focuses on the career of John - a career that has been described by another political historian as having no equal in the annals of Pennsylvania politics."--BOOK JACKET.
