- Summary
- DVD: Le Quattro stagioni = The four seasons ; played by I Musici in a film by Anton Van Munster exploring Venice--past, present and future. In addition to elegant vistas of Vivaldi's native city, the film features numerous paintings by such masters as Canaletto, Guardi and Tintoretto, as well as the fabulous costumes sported by Venice's citizens during its unique Winter Carnival.
- CD: I Musici were instrumental in bringing the Venetian composer Vivaldi back to the attention of the modern world. The Four Seasons and I Musici have been closely tied together for five decades. The four concertos that make up The Four Seasons were originally prefaced by four sonnets and thus represent one of the earliest surviving examples of programme music. Its success lies in the fact that the story it unfolds is a human one. It says as much about the passing glories of man's acheivement as of the falling leaves, as much about the birth, ageing and passing of ordinary people themselves as of the turning of the year. It is timeless music, and in this sense none could tell better the story of Venice, the timeless city in which it was born.
