- Summary
- This 2-DVD set is divided into three parts. Part one is a one hour film, We want the light, the title taken from a poem written by 12-year-old Eva Pickova, interned in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. It is about the complex relationship between Jews and German music, and about survival and the place of music in the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. The second part of the DVD continues with nearly all the music from the film, not as background music as in the film, but in vision, shot in such a way so as to make it a reflection of the themes touched upon in the film, but this time without words. The third section includes interviews with musicians and three Holocaust survivors followed by Evgeniĭ Kisin's rendition of the slow movement of Brahm's F minor piano sonata.
- This award-winning film is about freedom, survival, and the extraordinary place of music in the Nazi concentration camps.
