- Summary
- Landfall was a temporary public-project (2005-2010) by artists Hiryczuk / Van Oevelen in Zuidas, a large-scale expansion of the city of Amsterdam. Commissioned by the Virtueel Museum Zuidas (VMZ) and supported by the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst. The artists conceived the idea of bringing the youngest island in the world, Surtsey off the coast of Iceland, to Zuidas Amsterdam by means of large panoramic photographs. The two land masses are comparable in size, but apart from that, totally different. Surtsey is a spontaneous impulse of nature, accessible only for research. Zuidas is a former marshland changed by human intervention into a business district on the most dirt in the Netherlands.
