- Summary
- A biography of Robert Brasillach (1909-1945), the French fascist writer and literary critic. Describes his life and activities, and his antisemitism, which was similar to that of his political milieu and his "teacher" Maurras, and can be defined as rational, political antisemitism rather than emotional hatred of the Jews. In 1938 Brasillach wrote against "Jewish power" in the fascist journal "Je Suis Partout", although he opposed pogroms. States that his antisemitism was based on nationalism and opposition to the settlement of large numbers of Jewish immigrants, but was not racist. During the Second World War he became more extreme and accused the Jews of responsibility for the war. He approved the deportation of Jewish immigrants from France, not knowing of their fate.
