- Summary
- This volume is a survey of Black Reconstruction Congressional politicians and their orations. It is limited to those sixteen Congressmen who served in the 41st through the 45th Congresses, covering a time period from 1869 to 1879. Historically Reconstruction continued up to 1901, but this study is limited to that period which was considered, by some historians, to be the period of Radical Reconstruction, or, as one historian characterized it, "The Tragic Era." (From Preface).
