Summary
Abstract: The possible uses of seeds and seed products in meeting human nutrition needs are explored for the general reader. The historical role of seeds in agricultural developments and social customs is traced. Current practicesrelating to plants, seeds, and seed products are discussed, specifically legumes, starchy staples, coconuts, sunflower and cottonseed oils, and other plants used for food, or for beverage and spice generation. The nutritional relevance of seeds and plants as alternatives to meat and sugar is assessed. The material covers the agricultural development and use of seed products throughout the world, and is illustrated with numerous drawings and contemporary photographs.
