Summary
Abstract: Parents and children are taught how to identify and manage hidden food allergies. Symptoms of food reaction intolerances are described, along with specific instructions for 2 elimination diets which determine whether adverse reactions are caused by foods. Illustrations and lists of foods which can and cannot be eaten on the elimination diet are given; shopping tips, food sources, recipes, and menus are also included to help families plan and obtain the foods required by the diets. Questions and answers about elimination diets are presented. Four stories about children and their allergies illustrate such important principles as allergic load, tolerance, rotated diets, record keeping, and dietary compliance. Suggestions for tracking down a hidden chemical allergy are also given.
