- Summary
- "Walloon verse is written in the several French-related dialects of south-eastern Belgium. In this century particularly there has been a literary renaissance like that in Scots, for similar ends of expressing national identity, and with comparable results. Although a few poems have been translated into other European languages or dialects, and there has been a French anthology, this is the first selection of Walloon poetry in translation to be published outside the Francophone area. Presented here are poems spanning 40 years of intense literary activity by the best and most representative writers of one of Europe's more curious and under-valued linguistic minorities. The translations are by the poet Yann Lovelock, and the book contains samples of the dialects in the original." --cover page [2].
