Summary
From its initial release, it is a reflection on cinema. Marguerite Duras explains the difficulties she had in making films, the problems encountered and provides some answers. The text is augmented by a good number of personal reflections, conversations she has had with people with an interest in cinema (actors, directors, producers) and letters written or received, always related to the subject. There are also biographies and personalities, including singers, and some photographs taken by the author's own son. The whole makes a coherent book but sometimes difficult to read, even to understand. The essential message that she wanted to convey is the despair she has at not succeeding in revolutionizing French cinema.
