Summary
  • Intended as a textbook, surveys the history of the Jewish people from the French Revolution up to 1948, and its place in general history. Ch. 4 (pp. 75-100), "Der Judenhass und Antisemitismus", summarizes Jew-hatred in Germany, negative Jewish stereotypes in the Austrian press, blood libels in Damascus and Tiszaeszlár (Hungary), attacks against the Talmud, the Dreyfus Affair, and persecution of Jews in different countries. Pp. 125-130 describe the 1881-82 pogroms in Russia. also mentions the pogrom in Kishinev, the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and discrimination against Jews in the Nazi regime. Pp. 310-330 relate the events of the Holocaust. Blames the Church for not protesting.
  • Intended as a textbook, describes Jewish life in the Diaspora, referring also to the Crusades, blood libels, Host desecration accusations, and the expulsions from England and France. In Germany, Jews were discriminated against and isolated from the general population. They were accused of well-poisoning and propagating the Black Death, and many were murdered or forced to convert. In 15th century Austria, authorities who wished to appropriate Jewish property arrested and tortured Jews and had them burned at the stake. Jews in Spain were forced to convert or were expelled in 1492. Mentions Luther's Jew-hatred, life in the ghettos, and the expulsion from Vienna in 1670. Mentions, also, the pogroms in the Ukraine and the persecution of Jews in Russia.
