Summary

This work, based on a course given at Heidelberg University in 1945-46, discusses, from a philosophical and ethical perspective, the question of German culpability for Nazi crimes. Without having, at that time, an exact image of the proportion of the atrocities, Jaspers focuses on different degrees and types of culpability, justifying the Nuremberg International Tribunal. He mentions the passivity of the population during the German anti-Jewish measures and the deportations.
