Summary
To commemorate the centenary of Prokofiev's birth, the composer's son Oleg has put together this anthology of writings by Prokofiev himself. This collection includes the hitherto unpublished Soviet diary (1927) which, for reasons of political expediency, was held by the Prokofiev family for 50 years before they would allow it to be released. The diary records Prokofiev's return to Soviet Russia as a visiting celebrity after ten years in exile. With eyes refreshed by his banishment he offers glimpses of the Soviet Russia of the 1920s. The volume also contains fragments of several short stories, and an early autobiography, published many years ago in the Soviet Union. -- Amazon.com.
