Summary
The Eldred family (with the various speelings of Eldrid, Eldredge and Eldridge) descends from the early Saxons who came to Britain from southern Denmark. Family tradition states that they descend from King Eadred who was the great-grandson of Alfred the Great. Most of the Eldreds in America descend from John Eldred (c1415-1489) of Corby Glen, Lincolnshire whos descendants settled in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Descendants live throughout the United States.
