- Summary
- Soil erosion threatens the permanence of prosperous farming, even in the fertile valleys of southwestern Pennsylvania.
- The drainage basin of Conestoga Creek and the surrounding territory has been prominent in the agricultural and industrial history of the United States since early colonial days. Even before the coming of the white man it was occupied by a powerful tribe of Iroquoian stock, the Conestogas or Susequehannocks, whose designation was given to the Susquehanna River.
- This publication contains a description of the area and its agriculture, and discussions of the survey and of the significance of physical factors in planning land use and control of erosion.
