Description

Summary
Critical experiments are described which are intended to prove the technical feasibility and socio-economic desirability of specific applications or techniques for the widespread utilization of solar energy. These experiments fall within the following areas: heating and cooling of buildings, process heat, solar-thermal-electric, photovoltaic, ocean thermal, wind energy, organic materials, common applications. The specific concept which the experiment is intended to prove, and a rationale for the experiment are given. Each experiment is described in terms of the system to be constructed, its pacing and high-risk items, the intended users, desired interfaces with other systems and users, and estimated costs for the experiment. Each experiment is described and costs estimated for two levels of funding; a moderate risk, "minimum program", and a low-risk "accelerated program".
