Summary

Wheeler, U.S. Army Engineers, presents a series of adventures based on first hand knowledge of the West, Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, Indians, buffalo, and the period of the middle 1850s, with scores of illustrations by Thomas Moran and other artists of the period, and including a rewrite of John Wesley Powell's report on his transit of the Grand Canyon.
