Summary
States that, contrary to widespread opinion, the decision to annihilate the Jews of Europe was not taken at the Wannsee Conference held on 20 January 1942. The policy already existed, and had been implemented at least from summer 1941. At the time of the Conference the number of murdered Jews in the USSR, executed by the Einsatzgruppen, had reached half a million; the deportation of German, Austrian, Czech, and Luxembourg Jews, as well as the construction and operation of the first extermination camps for Polish Jews, prove clearly that there was no need for a decision at Wannsee. The 13 participants in the Conference were brought together by Heydrich in order to cope with difficulties which arose during the implementation of the extermination plan, such as the extent and timing of planned deportations and the choice of the proper manpower to carry out the orders meticulously. States that Holocaust revisionists use fragments of the Wannsee protocol to support their arguments.
