Ch. 5 (p. 209-248), "The Holocaust", mainly presents Holocaust anecdotes related by survivors, and experiences of members of the second generation who try to make contact indirectly with their parents' suffering. Rabbi Israel Spira (p. 212-219) presents examples of religious resistance, while Melvin Katz (p. 225-232) recounts his survival in various concentration camps. Includes a traditional tale of Jewish wisdom and jokes reflecting the "folklore of oppression".
