Summary
A companion to "The Specialist", a documentary film made from original tapes of the Eichmann trial, scripted by Brauman and Sivan in 1999 and directed by Sivan. Reflects on obedience, the political use of Holocaust memory by Israel, and the moral responsibility of the Judenräte. The authors recount how they edited the 350 hours of video-film of the trial placed at their disposal, sifting out that which can be generalized. Inspired by Hannah Arendt's "Eichmann in Jerusalem", Brauman and Sivan wanted to portray Eichmann as guilty of administrative crime, thus desacralizing this case which has become a basic Israeli narrative of Jewish sacrifice and survival. Pp. 101-161 contain the film script.
