"River sedimentation has been a problem of concern among hydraulic engineers since ancient times. In recent years, prompted by the call for sustainable development and disaster mitigation, challenging problems with wider scope and greater complexity have emerged. Examples include large scale flooding and debris flow, loss of fertile soil due to erosion, reservoir sedimentation, impact of major hydraulic structures, and inland navigation. The proceedings contains a collection of keynote and invited lectures together with contributions selected for presentation at the symposium. The subject coverage include sediment transport mechanics, bridge and bed scour, hyperconcentrated and debris flow, experimental and numerical techniques, sediment budget and reservoir sedimentation, river training and sediment control, erosion and sediment yield, and physical and numerical modelling.
