Summary

Describes the political crisis in 1968 in Poland and concentrates on the process of "building the enemy" - the imaginary "Zionists" - created by the communist propaganda for the use of the nationalistic fraction inside the Workers' Party. Reconstructs "the enemy" (mostly, but not necessarily, the Jew) from hundreds of texts, including articles, books, pamphlets, speeches, letters to editors, and other sources of official propaganda. Argues that the March campaign was directed against only one adversary, the "Zionist", whose image was built from various negative descriptions. Analyzes the semantics used in the propaganda. Pp. 97-270 contain articles and documents from the Polish press which illustrate the March 1968 antisemitic campaign.
