- Summary
- "'Fourteen months after this book was first written there occurred the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC, in which some 3,000 people were massacred and, in the eyes of many, a new and grimmer era opened in the history of mankind. I have added an epilogue reflecting on the significance of that event. In dealing with such actualites it is impossible, and perhaps undesirable, to maintain the dispassionate stance for which a historian must strive in analyzing the events of the past, and some readers may find my remarks controversial. For this I make no apology. If anything that I write can make an impact, however minimal, on the course of events, so much the better.'"--BOOK JACKET.
