Summary
An analysis of the situation of Jews in Austria today, including the attitude of Austrians toward Jews as well as the attitude of Jews toward Judaism, non-Jews, and antisemitism. Chs. 23-25 (p. 117-125), "Antisemitismus oder Im Shoah-Schatten", discuss Austrian and European opinions on antisemitism and xenophobia, racism, and commemoration of the Holocaust, accentuating their ambivalent approach. Contends that Jews in the diaspora live in a niche between the "antisemitic idea" and the "antisemitic act", at the joint of which constant crises develop, nourishing a collective concept of the enemy.
