Summary

This book, first published in 1972, was the first comprehensive presentation of the concepts and methods of signal detection theory designed for a mathematically naive audience. McNicol (psychology, the Universities of New England, Sydney, and Tasmania, Australia) introduces basic and advanced ideas of detection theory and its fundamental measures, and presents experiments that summarize the various measurements detailed. Worked examples, chapter problems, and answers are included. The book is written for undergraduates with a previous course in statistics who have not gone beyond elementary algebra in mathematics.
