Focusing on ethnic groups with an established New Zealand resident population, the report seeks to inform public discussion on language retention issues and make statistical information on this topic more readily available to interested groups. The report ... examines language retention across 15 selected ethnic groups. For comparative purposes, the individual groups have been combined as Pacific peoples, Asian and European. The ethnic groups examined in this report include Pacific peoples: Samoan, Cook Island Maori, Tongan, Tokelauan, Niuean, Fijian (excluding Fiji India/Indo-Fijian); Asian: Indian, Chinese, Khmer / Kampuchean / Cambodian, Vietnamese, Korean; European: Dutch / Netherlands, Greek (including Greek Cypriot), Croat / Croatian, Italian.
