Summary

Presentation and exploration of the fine art collections and architecture on display at the University of Melbourne. Concentrating on the works from the Ian Potter Museum of Art, the book also discusses the collections of the Grainger Museum, Baillieu Library Rare Books Collection, Baillieu Print Collection, the Medical History Museum, the Classics Collection and the University Archives. Painting critiques are divided into categories of theme and/or historical period, such as antiquities and mythology, Edwardian era, nineteenth century positivism, faith and ceremony, the macabre and bizarre and landscape. The essays by University art experts include commentaries on such renowned artists as Norman Lindsay, Arthur Boyd, Carraci, Durer, Breughel, Tiepolo and Rembrandt van Rijn. Features full-colour reproductions throughout.
