- Summary
- The new special exhibition shows classical and contemporary handicraft art from Indonesia, and it leads into a world of the myths and magic conceptions. Few of the exhibits shown combine the idea and motives of most different epochs and cultures in itself. Often the use of special ornamental forms, special weapons or articles of clothing reflects the outstanding rank of a person or its affiliation to a group of peoples again. The appearance of an article is determined again and again apart from its function and the aesthetic conceptions of its creator by certain religious or social standards and excessive quantities. Some forms and motives are to tune ancestor and Gods friendly or repel threatening mischief. An important gives the work art-relating to crafts exists in the arrangement of the traditional arts such as music, dance and the delivered shade play Wayang up. Also they are in not small measure still today an indispensable component of the religious life of many Indonesian Ethnien.
